Jabar, Veronika win golds at Asian Powerlifting in Hong Kong
LAHORE: Powerlifters Abdul Jabar Adnan and Veronika Sohail Khokhar won laurels for the country at the Asian Equipped Powerlifting Championships held in Hong Kong.
Jabar dominated Masters-1 Category. Jabar, a Punjab University faculty member in the Sports Sciences and Physical Education department and athlete, showcased remarkable dedication by balancing his teaching duties with rigorous powerlifting training.
Competing in the Masters-1 category at the age of 41, Adnan dominated the +120 kg weight class, securing four gold medals. He triumphed in the squat, bench press, deadlift, and total weight lifted categories.
Jabar previously secured gold medals at the 2013 and 2014 Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships held in Melbourne and Auckland, respectively. Veronika, representing Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), etched her name in history by becoming the first female university student from Pakistan to win a gold medal at an Asian powerlifting event. Veronika clinched the gold medal in the 57 kg category at the Asian University Bench-Press Championship.
