Last Friday (May 3) saw a tragic accident that took the lives of at least 21 people as a bus travelling from Rawalpindi to Hunza fell into a gorge. The loss of innocent lives is a matter of grave concern and we must take action to prevent such incidents from happening again. The transportation system in Gilgit-Baltistan is in urgent need of an upgrade. We cannot afford to have people risking their lives every time they travel.
It is high time for the GB and federal governments to take responsibility and ensure that the transportation system is safe and reliable. I once travelled from Gilgit to Rawalpindi by bus and observed the deplorable condition of the vehicles. We cannot afford to lose more innocent lives due to the negligence of those responsible. It is time to prioritize the safety of people traveling in the area and to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
