US citizens advised to exercise caution over ‘report of threat to high-end hotels’
The United States Consulate General in Karachi has issued a threat alert for upscale areas of the metropolis, resulting in the temporary suspension of all official and unofficial travel by US government personnel to such locations.
As per the announcement issued from the US Consulate, a heightened security alert has been declared for “high-end hotels” within Karachi.
The announcement reads: “The US Consulate General Karachi has received a report of a threat of terrorist attacks targeted at high-end hotels in Karachi. In response to such threats, the US Embassy and Consulates sometimes place areas such as tourist attractions, hotels, markets, shopping malls and restaurants off-limits to official US government personnel.”
It further reads that the high-end hotels in Karachi are temporarily off-limits to official US government personnel. The guidelines call for avoiding the areas and crowds, keeping a low profile, being aware of surroundings, and staying alert in locations frequented by tourists and the Westerners.
The US citizens have been advised to exercise caution while travelling to such locations, and have banned them from using public transportation and from staying overnight in hotels in the country.
