LHC seeks documents in case against chairing Punjab govt meeting by Nawaz

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) sought relevant documents from a petitioner in a case, filed against chairing of the Punjab government administrative meeting by PMLN supremo Nawaz Sharif.

The petition, filed by a citizen Mashkoor Hussain, came up for hearing before an LHC single bench, led by Justice Muzammil Akhtar Shabbir, on Thursday.

The counsel for petitioner said Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz jointly presided over a meeting in Lahore, though the former held no public or administrative office. Therefore, the court should restrain Nawaz Sharif from presiding over any administrative meetings. The court told the petitioner that he should present official documents related to the meeting, as there were no signatures of anyone on the press release, issued by the government.

The counsel for the petitioner sought time to present official documents, and the court adjourned the hearing.

The petition was filed through Nadim Sarwar Advocate, making Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz respondents through the principal secretary.

According to media reports, Nawaz Sharif had presided over three administrative meetings of the Punjab government recently, along with CM Maryam Nawaz.

It was said in an official handout that Nawaz Sharif had issued directives to ministers and others in connection with different projects of infrastructure including underground train, metro bus, farming community welfare, electric bikes for students, and Ramazan relief package.
