Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a key operative of an interprovincial black Corolla gang, known for its terror across the country.
The suspect, Shahzad Ali, was apprehended during a raid conducted by the Soldier Bazaar police based on a tip-off in the Garden West area. According to District East police chief SSP Irfan Bahadur, the suspect was a key operative of the black Corolla gang, a group of interprovincial criminals involved in looting international burger chains across Pakistan.
Quoting the suspect’s confessions, SSP Bahadur stated that the gang had conducted numerous burger chain heists from Karachi to Punjab, with dozens of robberies in Karachi alone. Shahzad Ali was also wanted in multiple cases in rural Sindh and had been arrested more than 35 times in Punjab, he added. Multiple CCTV footages captured during the suspect’s robberies had been obtained, and a car purchased with looted money had been recovered.
Three other accomplices of the suspect were currently detained in Gujranwala, Punjab, while one accomplice, Rashid, remained at large, Bahadur disclosed, saying the suspect had provided significant information during the investigation, including confessing to multiple crimes in rural Sindh, Hyderabad, and Punjab. Illegal weapons along with ammunition had also been seized from the suspect. Further investigations into the matter are underway.
