Islamabad: In a historic milestone, the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) has secured accreditation from the esteemed World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), signifying a monumental achievement in elevating medical education standards within Pakistan.
This recognition, granted for a remarkable tenure of 10 years, underscores PMDC’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the highest quality of medical education.
With WFME accreditation, Pakistani students now gain eligibility to apply for ECFMG and USMLE, opening doors for pursuing postgraduate training and practice in countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. This recognition not only validates PM&DC’s adherence to international benchmarks but also enhances the global competitiveness of Pakistani healthcare professionals.
President PM&DC, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj, expressed elation over this recognition, highlighting it as a testament to the council's relentless efforts to enhance medical education standards. Dr. Taj emphasised the crucial role of global organisations like WFME in providing direction and support for achieving excellence in medical education.
Acknowledging the collaborative efforts of stakeholders, including the Minister of Health, Dr Nadeem Jan, NHSC Secretary Health, Surgeon General, PMDC Council members, and international consultants, Dr. Taj extended gratitude to medical colleges and hospitals for their instrumental role during the rigorous evaluation process.
This accreditation not only solidifies PMDC's commitment to excellence but also sets a new standard for medical education in Pakistan. With all existing medical colleges becoming WFME accredited and future institutions automatically receiving accreditation, the nation is poised to further elevate its medical education standards, aligning them with global best practices.
PMDC reaffirms its dedication to continuous improvement and collaboration with international partners, ensuring that Pakistani medical education remains at the forefront of excellence, ultimately benefiting healthcare professionals and patients alike.
