It was hoped and maybe even expected that this year’s elections would lead to a sustainable government taking charge of a state that has long been suffering from a multitude of socioeconomic crises. Instead, what we have is more controversy, accusations and possibly, in the coming days, protests, cases, and agitations.
All the money and time spent on ensuring a credible, transparent, and efficient election appears to have been wasted. In order to redeem this situation, it is crucial that all political leaders put Pakistan first, engage in dialogue, and avoid conflict. Street politics is not always a solution.
