This letter refers to the article ‘A future that may plunge us back into the past’ (February 9, 2024) by Raoof Hasan. We have already decayed and regressed over time. So what further deterioration can be in store for us? On August 14, 1947, people thought the vestiges of colonialism had been left behind but were very wrong.
Colonialism has remained intact though under a different façade and with a new rule. The hopes and aspirations affiliated with independence have not been realized over the past 76 years. Despondency and disillusionment is writ large on the faces of the people but no one in power seems to care.
