LAHORE: Former PTI chairman Imran Khan has challenged proceedings in the Election Commission of Pakistan contempt case and jail trial in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
Suleman Akram Raja and Barrister Shameer Khosa filed the petition, making the federal government and superintendent Adiala jail as respondents.
The petitioner took the plea that the ECP initiated contempt proceedings illegally as it was not a court. The ECP has no powers to conduct contempt proceedings. Also, the ECP decided to conduct jail trial in this case, which is illegal. The secret trial in jail is against Article 4 of the Constitution.
The court was requested to nullify the ECP decision for conducting the jail trial. The court was requested to order an open and fair trial and stop indictment proceedings till the court decision.
