PPP accuses KP govt of ignoring flood victims
PESHAWAR: Leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, said on Friday that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government had ignored people affected by floods and rains and urged the rulers to accelerate relief work to mitigate their sufferings.
Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club, PPP provincial president Senator Khanzada Khan criticised the government for not taking action to help flood-affected families. PPP provincial leaders Azam Khan Afridi, Women Wing president Nighat Yasmeen Orakzai, Mohammad Anwar Khan, Akbar Khan advocate and others were also present.
Senator Khazada Khan said that the flood and rains caused many casualties and washed away roads, homes and infrastructure in upper parts of the province. The PPP leader also lambasted the PTI chairman for making tall claims but doing little. He said the provincial government had failed to come up to the expectations of people.
Khanzada Khan said that his party has nominated Malik Tehmash Khan as its candidate on PK-8 constituency that fell vacant after the death of PML-N MPA Arbab Akbar Hayat Khan. Rejecting the extension of Customs Act to Malakand division, the PPP leader alleged that the provincial government had first asked the federal government to impose taxes on Malakand division and now it was deceiving the nation by writing a letter for withdrawal of the decision. He demanded the federal and provincial governments to immediately annul the decision.
He said the PPP is ready to hold intra-party elections in a transparent manner. Under the initial phase, he added, the party had decided to hold intra-party elections in five districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Deputy parliamentary leader Nighat Orakzai expressed the apprehension that both the federal and provincial governments would utilise government machineries for their parties’ nominee in the by-election.
