MULTAN: Secretary General Wafaqul Madaris Pakistan Maulana Hanif Jalandhari has said that his organisation did not object to the registration of Madaris but to the registration procedure.
He said they had rejected the government’s registration form that was released in the name of security. He said that the government was violating the agreement it had signed with the leadership of Madaris in 2005.
Addressing a seminar organised by the Wafaqul Madaris, he said, “Protection of Madaris and mosques is our responsibility.”He claimed that the Madaris had nothing to do with terrorism. He also claimed that seminaries had always spread the message of peace.
He said their aim in life was to safeguard the Madaris and mosques. He remarked that they had joined hands with the government and the Pakistan Army for Pakistan’s stability and the establishment of peace, but some forces were creating misunderstanding between the seminaries and the institutions.
He said that seminaries were blamed for receiving foreign aid but this was no more than a blame. He said that the government had admitted in Senate that 23 seminaries were getting foreign aid whereas the number of seminaries in the country was over 30,000. He said none of these 23 seminaries are in the Punjab or Fata.
Earlier, Nazim of Wafaqul Madaris, Southern Punjab, Maulana Zubair Ahmed Siddiqui, said that the government should review the discriminatory laws regarding religious seminaries and mosques and make the registration process easier.
Maulana Qari Muhammad Tayyab, Maulana Muhammad Yasin, Maulana Habibur Rehman, Allama Abdul Haq Mujahid, Mufti Muhammad Tayyab and Maulana Sultan Mehmood also spoke on the occasion.
