While, sure, some of us have embraced our bare skin, we’re ready to have some fun again and dip into our ever-growing stash of eye shadow palettes and lipsticks.

And from the looks of Instagram, we’re not alone. Suddenly our feeds are full of colour and shimmer. The only rule seems to be that there are none – it’s all about what makes you feel good. But if you need a jumping-off point, we’ve got plenty of makeup ideas to get you started. Here are the coolest spring makeup looks to try right now, from smudgy black eyeliner to cloud skin. Read on for all the makeup ideas we’ve been adding to our saved folders…

The Coral Way

Orange is to fall as coral is to spring. Nothing captures the essence of spring quite like a bright orangey-pink. This hue is absolutely stunning and the good news is, this lip colour looks gorgeous on anyone! Coral is a particularly popular shade during the spring/summer months since it looks stunning against bronzed skin. The Milk Makeup Mini Lip + Cheek in Perk is a shade you can try. Thanks to the oils and mango butter in the formula, this creamy tint blends beautifully and can be sheered out like a lip stain and built up as much as you want. Roll a little on the apples of your cheeks and your lips, then use the warmth of your hands to blend it out and melt it into the skin.

Pastel Graphic Liner

A swipe of soft pastel eyeliner screams spring and summer, but it truly makes for a pretty eye-makeup look any time of the year. Pastel liners are the perfect introduction to wearing colour because they are muted down and are great as an accent colour or all-over wash. For glowy and radiant skin and lips, a simple swipe of pastel on the eyes is the perfect finishing touch. While there are dozens of pastel liners on the market — including liquid, gel, pencil, and water-activated formulas, the Stila Double Dip Suede Shade and Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows in Beach Wave can be a good choice. To create the graphic line on the inner half of the eyes, use this double-ended liquid shadow stick that has a pearly teal shade on one side and a sheer sparkly teal on the other. It also comes with a doe-foot applicator that makes it super easy for you to recreate the look.

Flushed Lips

Pink lipstick is so pretty when it’s blurred out for that elusive I-just-ate-a-Popsicle stain. Paired with glowing skin and fluffy brows, it’s a no-fail look for spring and beyond. Pearly pastel pink for spring? You can easily create the look with a coat of Glossier’s Generation G lipstick M.A.C Cosmetics Frost Lipstick in Pink Power. Used the soft, sheer pink lipstick with pearly pigments on the lips and apply a little on the cheeks as well.

Statement Blush

Blush is having a real moment this spring, and what better way to embrace it than piling it on? Don’t be afraid to dab a cream or liquid blush across your cheekbones and toward your temples for a pretty, lifted effect. Just a touch across the bridge of your nose will also give you a sun-kissed look, even if you haven’t been outside in days. Blush is usually an accent, sculpting cheekbones and brightening complexions. The Maybelline Cheek Heat Gel-Cream Blush can be the perfect choice. This cream blush is super-buildable, so you can start with just a dab and build from there for more drama.

The New Neons

Why wait until summer to bring out the electric blue, neon green, and bright pink shadows?! To achieve the perfect look, start with a base of M.A.C Lipmix (you could also use bright, pigmented cream eyeshadow if you’ve got it), then set it with matte powder pigment in one of the above shades. Another product which can be used is the NYX Professional Makeup Vivid Brights Crème Color Eye Color & Pigments The beauty of these eyeshadows is how pigmented they are. Use as eyeshadow, or take an eyeliner brush to draw defined, bright lines. Not one of your wintery green eyeshadows, this attention-grabbing electric lime shade is like spring in a pan. Apply it with a wet brush for super-pigmented eyeliner, or diffuse it out with fluffy eyeshadow brushes.

Glossy Lips

As the early-2000’s resurgence continues, so does the return of lip gloss. Shiny lips add just the perfect touch of glam to any look. These modern glosses deliver a glossy, with every imaginable finish and level of colour pigmentation, plus moisturising ingredients in a whole new way. This non-sticky, plumping formula from Caliray called the Glazed & Infused Lip Plumper Gloss in Free Palomas will be your new favourite gloss, trust. The modern glosses have the same amount of shine sans the stickiness. The formulation will also leave your lips feeling insanely hydrated thanks to the apricot kernel oil. Pro tip: Purchase a clear lip gloss so you can pop it on top of any of your favourite lipstick colours.

Embellished Eyes

Crystal eye looks were everywhere this past year, and the trend seems to be going strong for spring 2022. Who needs concealer when you have crystals scattered around your under-eyes. Embellishments weren’t exclusive to just the clothing. The ColourPop Mixed Crystal Face Jewels Set has a flat and sticky back for easy application on your lash line, underneath the eyes, or anywhere else you want a little glam. For a more secure hold, use a dab of lash glue. With self-adhesive backs, these crystals require minimal effort while providing maximum glimmer. If actual gemstones are a touch too far for you, go for an iridescent eyeshadow instead.

Fresh Red

At this point, wearing any lipstick at all feels fresh, but one of the coolest ways to wear a red lip right now is with barely any other makeup. Wet hair combined with a white kurti or shirt is perfect for the warm weather ahead. Pair your bold lip with a fresh face or a wash of shadow. The perfect choice would be the M.A.C Cosmetics Lipstick in Ruby Woo. When it comes to red lipstick, you can’t go wrong with Ruby Woo. To get a velvety red lip, use a creamy matte lipstick in a bright red shade. When all you’re wearing is a red lip, you got to make sure your pout looks flawless. The formula uses vitamin E to keep the lips hydrated and smooth and prevent the lipstick from flaking or caking.
