COVID-19

It’s easy to let negative thoughts and feelings creep in during the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of coronavirus cases are surging. Nations are under quarantine. People are out of work. Schools remain closed, indefinitely. If you’re feeling afraid, you’re not alone. Fear to the unknown is a natural response, but to get through this time, we should receive positivity from each other.

Recently, the three-time Gourmand Award winning publishing house, Markings Publishing, helmed by Kiran Aman, has proudly launched its first global outreach project titled ‘Our Markings 2020’. The project is a photographic journey through COVID-19, a testimony to life during self and social isolation.

In these unprecedented times amid COVID-19, Kiran aims to unite the community to find communal strength and perseverance by joining hands on one platform to document the shifting values in the current times. Committed towards uplifting mankind’s morale, the publishing house is inviting everyone to send in photographs that depict what one feels, sees, or thinks, to initiate the live case history for this project.

Markings Publishing has already received global entries from New York, Dar es Salaam, Doha, Jaipur, Dubai, Haryana, Karachi, Jeddah, Boston and Lahore to name a few. The entries also include pictures taken and submitted by actress Mahira Khan, Faisal Kapadia of Strings and Selina R. Khan, CEO of Lotus PR. These submissions will be compiled in a book, which will document the journey through this time.

According to Kiran Aman, CEO Markings, “At this time, it is imperative that you keep your family and selves safe by staying home, so let us try and make this time interesting for you! We look forward to getting to know you through your submissions.

We remain ever grateful for the opportunity to brighten the year’s horizon with you. Most importantly, keep in mind that the more genuine and intimate your expression, the more our readership can weather and withstand COVID-19. It is time to come together and document our journey.”

To be a part of this project, you have to follow the following guidelines. Firstly, ask yourself, what meaning and/or opportunities have you realised upon being isolated from friends and family? Secondly, take a photo and caption your response with your feeling during that moment in time (word limit: 35 words). Express yourself with abandon, as all emotions are welcomed: limitation or opportunity, surreal or faithful, hesitant or helpful, lonely or energetic. No feeling is too large or too small.

You must include your name, age, city, country, time and date, period of isolation (thus far), caption, social media handle(s) and email it to info@markings.com.pk with the subject: OurMarkings 2020.

The team will shortlist the most powerful entries which will be published in ‘Our Markings 2020’, whilst the remaining images will be shared across social media, crediting the respective photographer(s).
