The right hair cut and colour can give you confidence and make you feel sensuous. This week You! talks exclusively to expert hair dresser Tarek Rizk about the IT Looks 2017...I’m a triple threat, Tarek Rizk

You must have come across those sexy models on television for a shampoo commercial - have you noticed how sleek and shiny their hair is? How soft and bouncy it looks? Have you ever wished to trade your hair for theirs? Nothing complements a person’s overall appearance more than lustrous hair that is well taken care of and styled in the hottest fashion. And for most women, getting a new haircut or changing their hair colour seems to be the best way to change their overall look. It is very important to choose the right hairstyle and colour that perfectly fits your personality. But for that you need to consult a professional hairstylist and he/she will definitely make you look like a star.

So, this week You! talks to ace hair stylist, Tarek Rizk from Lebanon, who has been in the beauty industry for the past 22 years. He started off as a model for different agencies and worked with some big names in the fashion industry. After a few years he decided to pursue hairdressing as a career, as it was always a passion for him. “I took some personal classes from some of the best hairdressers at that time like Joe Sorbe, Patrick Cameron, Toni&Guy and many more,” he shares. Tarek Rizk is also L’Oreal Professionnel’s International Technical Consultant. Recently the brand along with the dynamic hair maestro presented the IT LOOKS 2017 via nationwide road shows. The series kicked-off in Lahore followed by Islamabad and Karachi. Read on to find out more...

You! What inspired you to choose this profession?

Tarek Rizk: It’s funny, because I got inspired by my girlfriend at that time. I used to go to the salon with her. And it was there that I decided to become a hair dresser. I’m a triple threat - expert in cut, colour & styling!

You! How long have you been associated with L’Oreal Professionnel and why?

T. R: I have been associated with the Parisian brand since I decided to be a hair dresser. Why?  Because they are the leaders in hair colour technology, they promote the best and they know how to treat their clients.

You! Where did the concept of IT Looks originate from?

T. R: As you know IT Looks are the looks that everyone talks about, from the stars on the red carpet, the models on the runway and the chic girls on the streets. But they originate from a hairdresser’s mind. And when the brand chose me as their International Technical Consultant, I was more than happy to work with them to create looks that are trendy and chic.

You! What are the IT Looks 2017 all about?

T. R: The IT Looks S/S 2017 include Nude Beige and Copper Foilyage. Nude beige is a beautiful colour that we did on model, Rehmat Ajmal. Actually Nude Beige is a hue that has always been in and always will be. A lot of big names have already carried it off beautifully like Charlize Theron, the evergreen Marilyn Monroe, and Scarlett Johansson with her daring pixie cut. The other look that we created for Hareem Farooq is Copper Foilyage, which is for daring women. Actually the subtle copper roots blend in with vibrant copper ends giving a vivacious and bold feel.

You! For the IT Looks, how do you decide on which hairstyles and hair colour to go for?

T. R: Well it depends on two things - the skin tone and the way the lady dresses.

You! How would you describe Tarek Rizk’s signature style?

T.R: Being trendy all the way!

You! Tell us about the latest trends in makeup & hair...

T.R: I would say nude makeup with a sexy defined eye liner. As far as haircut is concerned, a chic lob is to go for this season. Nude beige, copper burgundy for hair colour and hair dos that look natural.

You! What is the best hair colour for Asian women?

T.R: Being Asian makes a woman ever more unique. I have always believed that everyone should be treated according to her own style and the best colour for anyone is whatever suits that individual and how she carries it.

You! Any hair care tip you would like to share?

T.R: DON’T DO IT YOURSELF! Always let the professionals do what they do best, for the perfect result. Women tend to go overboard and end up looking disastrous.

You! What are biggest hair mistakes that women make?

T.R: For colour, when they try and do it themselves and ruin their hair in the process. And for cut, you can’t ALWAYS have the same hair cut! There is a different look for every age.

You! Curly or straight hair, which is easier to style?

T.R: There is no such thing as a difficult hairstyle, there is only unsatisfied taste.

You! Must have hair products for women?

T.R: All L’Oreal and Kerastase products are a must have!

You! What is your favourite hair product that you can’t do without?

T.R: As a hairdresser I can’t pin point one, but there a lot of products that are a must have.

You! Ever since you have become a part of the beauty industry, how has it evolved over the years?

T.R: Nowadays companies are assisting the hair dressers more efficiently to achieve what they have always dreamt of. Feedbacks and comments from hair experts are taken into consideration. And due to a lot of competition and pressure of being better and better, makes one determine to be the best and work with the best.

You! How has the Pakistani beauty industry received the IT Looks?

T.R: To be honest initially I was not expecting such an over whelming response, but they were positive and accepting more than what I had imagined.

You! What are your future plans?

T.R: To always be on top of my game and be up to date, as we say in Lebanon- hair is the crown of the head. The crown that a woman never takes off and I hope to always give them the best look.
