This week You! takes a look at the contemporary interiors of recently renovated Al-Bustan restaurant...

Shades of orange & green

Going to a restaurant is not just about the food or the ambiance; in fact it is the perfect blend of both that results in a pleasant experience. Great ambiance, beautiful interiors and scrumptious food is what fine dining is all about. Recently, we happened to visit the renowned restaurant Al-Bustan in Movenpick Hotel, Karachi which has been renovated a few months ago. The hotel management’s main aim to refurbish the restaurant was to give it a complete facelift - making it more cheerful and bright. Emphasis was more on an open contemporary space with bright lights and tasteful use of colours. As Al-Bustan is the main all-day dining buffet restaurant of the hotel, it has been restructured in a contemporary way in order to create a striking impact.

The interior has been designed on modern lines by Designers East, a design practice company that specializes in architecture, interiors, planning, furniture designing, landscape etc. Before making any changes, the designers thoroughly researched each and every aspect and also kept in mind the demands and preferences of the guests. The interior structure has been redone in the shades of orange and green in order to support the concept of a contemporary look, giving an energetic and welcoming feel.

It has the capacity to cater 225 guests at a time and all the products used are export quality local materials - be it marble for the floors and walls or iron for its artefacts. Even the furniture and cutlery has been bought from the local market as the Hotel management believes in benefiting the area it operates in. The furniture has been selected accordin to the colour theme i.e. orange and green. The cutlery also matches the design concept - supporting the renewed and innovative look. Long rectangular wooden tables along with cosy sofas give a very warm touch, while the glass reflective ceiling adds depth to the restaurant. The tables and chairs have been placed strategically allowing enough space to move around. The colour palette and the materials used for the upholstery add to the overall look. In short, each and every detail has injected energy and vibrancy to the surroundings.

Any interior design is incomplete without proper lighting and decor. So, for the restaurant iron fish artefacts and beautiful round lighting have been chosen. Each fish ornamentation in gold provides the necessary break within the seating arrangements. Also they add to the privacy and make the place look like a proper restaurant.

Now coming to the best part - food! Al-Bustan is a buffet restaurant and serves various cuisines such as continental, Italian, Chinese and Pakistani. Dishes from different cuisines in a buffet not only provide variety but also add to the temptation to visit the restaurant again and again. Dessert is another tough decision with such a great variety to choose from. The buffet offers different kinds of desserts ranging from desi delights to mousse and puddings. Also, pasta being prepared according to your taste and that too right in front of your eyes steals the show.

Besides food and decor, live music and live cooking station add to the exclusivity of the restaurant. Not only this, the management rejoices all the relevant celebratory days and arranges mini food promotions regularly that make the buffet dining as exciting as possible with thematic decorations and exclusive menu. The current promotions are seafood nights, around the world nights, family nights, street food nights and Sunday special brunch.

What more do you want? If you are planning to experience fine dining than this is where you should head to!
