Also Shamla Areeba Shah’s poem, “To the unbridled lover” was a short and sweet poem. I look forward to read more of her poetry....

Feedback

Dear Editor,

Poets’ corner is one of the best sections in the magazine. I came across Bushra Majid’s poem “Perspective” in Oct 8 issue; I must say it is a well-crafted poem and she successfully conveyed her feelings and thoughts, but it needs figurative language, too. I completely agree that poets have poetic license and they have freedom to write poems in whatever way they want. But at the same time, I also think poetry needs some flow and connection that comes with poetic elements like similes, metaphors, alliteration, etc.

Also Shamla Areeba Shah’s poem, “To the unbridled lover” was a short and sweet poem. I look forward to read more of her poetry.

Dear Ed,

“How to enjoy your job” was an interesting and useful article. We all at some point in time, feel stuck in our jobs; we hate being at work! The tips mentioned in the article were quite effective and easy to try. I also shared the article with my colleagues.

Ed, I always thought since Us is a youth magazine, you should publish posts regarding volunteering programmes, internships, etc. Youth needs to be guided and helped through such opportunities.

Hey Ed,

I miss art mart in Us. Andaleeb, Hamid Gulistan and Areeba were great artists. Their drawings used to be simple and cool. I have saved few cuttings from old magazines as well. Us artists, we miss you!

Hey Editor,

‘The Eid Engagement and Other Weddings’ is really wowing me. Hina’s courtship is very cute, especially her chaperoned calls with Sameer. To tell you the truth, it’s Ray I am really liking it! He is not like the typical desi brother with a chip on his shoulder because his sister is not upholding the tradition of being a meek and biddable girl. Sameer is also nice, but Ammi is somewhat unnatural, even by our conservative standards. Mothers don’t treat daughters the way she is treating Hina. She comes out as a very rigid and unnatural parent. Foisting a decision on a daughter is done all the time, but not keeping her totally in the dark is a bit too much to taken in. I guess that’s why I like Ray so much! I am still waiting for the characters of Amani and Gohar to develop, and wonder about the ‘weddings’ to come. All I can say is Iqra is doing a great job!

Reflection

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr:

A man asked the Prophet (S.A.W), “What sort of deeds or (what qualities of) Islam are good?” The Prophet (S.A.W) replied, “To feed (the poor) and greet those whom you know and those whom you do not know.”
