GRAND EXHIBITION

The Mama Parsi Girls’ School is one of the oldest and the most respected educational institutions in Karachi. On 1 April, 2018, the School celebrated its centenary with a jashan amd milad, and followed it up with a three-day Grand Exhibition - Kaleidoscope of Colours recently. And, when The Mama School puts up an event, there are no half measures about it As such, the outcome was an unending array of stunning, meaningful projects, that drew praise from the guests.

Zarine T. Mavalvala, Former Principal, Dr Delara Mavalvala, Member Managing Committee, Ms Furengeez D. Tampal, Principal

Explaining the concept behind the theme of the Grand Exhibition in her welcome address, Ms Furengeez Darius Tampal said: “We had been working on this exhibition tirelessly for the past three months. The reason why Kaleidoscope of Colours was chosen as the exhibition theme was to make it purely research based.

“There’s a need for students and parents to realise that the aim of education is not all about getting good grades or marks in preparation for the job market.

“As teachers, it should be our endeavour to build everlasting thirst in our students to seek knowledge independently from any and every possible source. Students ought to be trained to become independent learners as ultimately they have to go out into the world to fend for themselves, face myriad challenges and overcome them by applying their problem solving skills.”

Since the Chief Guest, Dr Banoo Mama, was indisposed, her daughter, Dr Delara Mavalvala, inaugurated the exhibition. The visitors were delighted by the amazing projects displayed in the various rooms and halls of the School. ‘Colours of Rainbow’ was the caption under which the Afternoon Shift of the school displayed their work.

Visitors were captivated by the little girl doing embroidery with aplomb in the corner designated for handicrafts. All the colours of the rainbow were incorporated by the students in their amazing projects.

The students of the Morning Shift of the School were divided into groups, with each group representing one colour. Students did meticulous research on the given colour and the result was delightful. Harry Potter seemed to be the muse behind many projects; two little girls were even garbed as Ron and Ginny Weasley.

The quality of the work and the confident manner in which students explained their projects was a testimonial to the hard work invested in them by their teachers. Following are some of the projects captured by Us for our readers.
