  • Action; a Russian intelligence officer (Lawrence) is sent to seduce a CIA agent (Edgerton) in the hope of discovering the identity of a mole.
  • Is based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Jason Matthews.
  • Had a budget of $69 million; has made around $83 million in less than two weeks.
  • Has received mixed reviews from critics; Jennifer Lawrence’s performance has been praised, but the film has been criticised for being derivative, the lack of chemistry between its leads, and its overreliance on graphic violence.
  • Darren Aronofsky was initially in talks to direct the film but dropped out. Then David Fincher and Rooney Mara were attached to the project, but that didn’t pan out either. Finally Francis Lawrence was announced as the director and Jennifer Lawrence as the protagonist.
  • Is Francis Lawrence’s first film after the Hunger Games franchise, which also starred Jennifer Lawrence.
