Dear Ed,

The issue of Jan 6 was amazing, because I loved the cover story, ‘Miniature’s magnificence’(Jan 6) by Tooba Ghani. The work of Imran Qureshi and Aisha Khalid took my breath away. How creative they both are! How aesthetically pleasing their work is! I felt awed by the talent of the artists and could not help thinking how rich our country really is. We have some serious talent out there, needed to be nurtured and supported by the government in virtually all fields. Thank you for introducing these artists to Us readers.

Salam Eddy,

Thank you so much for publishing Saba Sheikh’s “Worth fighting for”(Dec 23). My mother is going through chemotherapy, so I could easily relate to the story. Unsa hits the nail on the head when she depicts the severity of the treatment in her narrative.

She is on her fourth session of chemo and literally she couldn’t deal with it at first – baldness, sickness, discolouration. But this illness didn’t hold her back; she says now she could look at life differently and more mindfully. She loves daddy, nani ma and her three children more than ever and says that to her life actually seems far more precious.

‘It’s a shame’, is it?

Hi Ed,

It is sad to see women being harassed in some of the most developed cities of the world. But, now what concerns me is that instead of carrying out proper investigation and punishing the culprits, government officials and police officers indulged themselves in stupid and pointless debates. And then instead of addressing the real issue, the social       media  diverted the attention of people     to non-issues. The debate that infuriated me was like men are also victims of harassment and women’s clothing should be blamed for this incident. People are using hashtags #notallmen and #yesallwomen; and shamefully, this debate is trending like hell! After reading the tweets, you would feel like ‘harassment’ is cool and trendy. Unfortunately, young people are showing more interest in these trivial arguments. I hope they understand their responsibility and get a little more serious on issues like harassment.

Age is just a number

Hello Editor,

I am in my twenties, but I feel really old! I am exhausted after working an hour or two; I hate to climb stairs; and, backache breaks my body. I guess I am to be blamed for my own condition. While relaxing on the couch, I came across an interesting news bit. It was about a 105-year-old man who made history by cycling more than 14 miles round a track in an hour; this was so inspiring! This old guy has given me a fitness goal for this year, and I have promised myself to eat healthy food and exercise properly to stay fit and healthy all my life – just a little bad at keeping promises, though!

US MAILReflection

Narrated by Al-Bara bin ‘Azib (R.A)

When Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) concluded a peace treaty with the people of Hudaibiya, Ali bin Abu Talib (R.A) wrote the document and he mentioned in it, “Muhammad, Allah’s Apostle.” The pagans said, “Don’t write: ‘Muhammad, Allah’s Apostle’, for if you were an apostle we would not fight with you.” Allah’s Apostle asked Ali to rub it out, but Ali said, “I will not be the person to rub it out.” Allah’s Apostle rubbed it out and made peace with them on the condition that the Prophet and his companions would enter Mecca and stay there for three days, and that they would enter with their weapons in cases.
