Feedback

Dear Editor,

I read The News International regularly, and also look forward to Us magazine. This magazine keeps me up to date on youth-related issues. Recently, I came across an article on teachers (Teachers-unsung heroes of our society, Oct 7) and decided to share my thoughts on it. Firstly, I would disagree with Dr. Faisal Yamin when he says teaching is more dignified than clinical practice. My point is no doctor can teach effectively until and unless s/he has sufficient clinical experience.

Secondly, it is not necessary to teach to get your profession recognised. Especially when it comes to the field of physiotherapy, one cannot treat patients sitting behind a desk; in fact, one needs to stay on top of relevant updates in the field to be successful.

Dear Editor,

I am a great fan of Us magazine; I read most of the articles and the Trust Us section is my favourite. I think Guru gives practical advice to teenagers and youngsters. It would be really nice if you could make more space for ‘Trust Us’. Keep up the good work!

Hey Ed,

Thanks for an informative article on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) by Shermeen Zuberi! We don’t really talk about these health issues openly and that is why many young women suffer from poor health. The culture is, when girls try to share their feelings, they are hushed. Such articles would create awareness and help girls overcome their hesitation. I really appreciate the idea that the information mentioned in the article came from a practicing doctor. There is no dearth of material online, but at the same time you don’t know how credible it is.

One thing I would add here is that government placed posters on PCOS awareness in various government hospitals so we can’t say that government has not taken ‘any step’.

I hope to see more articles on health.

Hello Editor,

Loved the cover story ‘Freezing point’ by Maham Zahid (Oct 14). The writer has used beautiful imagery to express thoughts and feelings. Another piece that I liked was ‘A message of hope’ by Tooba Malik. Urwa’s comment was the best; in very simple words, she gave a powerful message that every girl is extraordinary.

Aoa Ed,

Who doesn’t love cats? They are cute and harmless creatures. I really enjoyed the article ‘Taking care of Himalayan cats’ by Tooba Malik. Few years back, I used to bring home stray cats and take care of them.  But, my mum never liked them and shooed them away. The most interesting thing was that they always returned home; it was frustrating for her and she wondered why this happened. Then, she tried this: put the cat in a black polythene bag and dropped it miles away from our home. Apparently, it worked.

US MAILReflection

Narrated by Jabir bin Abdullah (R.A)

Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) sent me for some job and when I had finished it, I returned and came to the Prophet and greeted him but he did not return my greeting. So, I felt so sorry that only Allah knows it and I said to myself, ‘Perhaps Allah’s Apostle is angry because I did not come quickly.” Then, again, I greeted him, but he did not reply. I felt sorrier than I did the first time. Again, I greeted him and he returned the greeting and said, “The thing which prevented me from returning the greeting was that I was praying.” And at that time he was on his Rahila and his face was not towards the Qibla.
