Dear Editor,
Reading ‘Open sesame’ was like stepping into a lift that went straight to Storyland, with a surprise stop at Tech Town. One moment, with the writer waiting for an elevator; the next, I’m standing outside Ali Baba’s cave wondering if it is Wi-Fi enabled. All in all, ‘Open sesame’ opened not just imaginary doors, but also gave me a solid laugh in the process.

Hey Ed,
I wish to express my appreciation for the beautifully written piece ‘A homage to the ones who live eternally’ by Amna Ameer in today’s (15 August issue) Us. Amna’s work is a fitting tribute to Lahore; it was not merely an article, but a poetic journey through Lahore’s history, culture, and soul. Great job!

Floods in Balochistan
Dear Editor,
I am writing to bring to your attention the devastating impact of floods in Balochistan, particularly the recent floods of 2023. Balochistan, the second-largest province of Pakistan, faces severe flooding due to changes in global climate patterns. The region lacks adequate river systems to manage water flow, which worsens the situation during heavy rains. Every year, approximately 2,000 people lose their lives, and around 70 million are affected by flooding. In 2021, similar tragedies occurred, yet the affected families received little assistance from the government. In 2023, Gwadar, a district in the Makran region, suffered catastrophic flooding that claimed the lives of many people and animals, while destroying homes and livelihoods. The situation remains dire, and immediate action is necessary. We urge the government to improve river management and provide financial assistance to those affected by floods. It is essential to address these issues to prevent further loss of life and property in the future.

Hacking is a menace
Dear Editor,
It is deeply concerning that hacking incidents are on the rise in Pakistan. Certain individuals are targeting the general public, in particular by infiltrating bank systems. This puts the hard-earned savings of many poor people at risk and causes serious financial hardship. As a result, people across the country are being compelled to unite against this growing threat. Hacking has become a grave challenge for our nation. I therefore strongly urge the Government of Pakistan to take immediate action by enforcing stronger cybersecurity measures to protect citizens and stamp out such criminal activities.
