Hey Ed,
I really appreciated Ayesha Pervez’s article ‘The truth about lying’ in this week’s issue (20 June). Lying is such a bad habit, and yet it’s so pervasive. It can be awfully damaging to relationships and can simply destroy trust, and we all know trust once broken can be so hard to rebuild. If you realize that someone has lied to you once, you simply don’t know whether you can believe anything they say to you after that.
I also enjoyed the ‘Word up!’ quiz. Who knew “venting one’s spleen” had its roots in medieval medicine? Fascinating!
Keep up the good work!

Proud moment for Pakistan
Dear Editor,
Three Pakistani schools have been shortlisted for the prestigious World’s Best School Prizes 2025. The schools are Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust Higher Secondary School and Nordic International School from Lahore, and Beaconhouse College Programme’s Juniper Campus from Quetta.
Sanjan Nagar has been recognized for overcoming adversity by adopting the International Baccalaureate curriculum, empowering marginalized children with 21st-century skills. Nordic International School has been shortlisted for community collaboration, involving parents in students’ academic success. Beaconhouse’s Juniper Campus has been recognized for breaking barriers to STEM education in underprivileged areas through its mobile science lab, ‘Science Gaari’.
The winners will be announced in October, and the finalists will attend the World Schools Summit in Abu Dhabi. Despite this achievement, Pakistan’s education sector faces challenges, including inadequate funding and over 22 million out-of-school children.
Congratulations to all the individuals and organizations that have brought pride and honour to Pakistan! May these achievements inspire future generations to strive for excellence and make their country proud.
