Dear Ed,
I came across the issue of 17 January, 2025, in a salon waiting for my turn. I read the interview of Mahnoor Malik by Asif Khan, and liked the actor’s answers; they were fun and interesting. I also read ‘Poets’ Corner’ and was bowled over by the poem ‘Parted away’ by Amna Ameer and ‘Palm reader’ by Abid Agha. Since then, I have been following Us online. I have one request: please publish ‘Us Talk’ every week.

Lack of schools in Kolwah
Dear Editor
Kolwah, a vast and underserved area in Balochistan, needs schools. The absence of schools in this region has severely impacted the lives of children, depriving them of their fundamental right to education.
The literacy rate in Kolwah is alarmingly low. The affluent families have the means to send their children to cities for education, but the majority of the population cannot afford it. This has led to a significant disparity in educational opportunities, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and inequality.
I urge the government to take immediate action to address this critical issue and establish schools in Kolwah.

Urgent need to address drug menace
Assalam-o-alaikum Editor,
I am writing to express my deep concern about the growing drug problem in our beloved city, Abbottabad. Once known for its serene environment and educated populace, our city is now facing an alarming rise in drug addiction, threatening not only our youth but also the very fabric of our community.
In recent years, the proliferation of illegal substances such as marijuana, opiates, amphetamines, and psychedelics has led to devastating consequences. Many young individuals - our future leaders - are falling prey to substance abuse, resulting in broken families, increased crime rates, and a loss of productivity. It is heartbreaking to see talented individuals waste their potential due to this growing menace.
While authorities have made some efforts to curb this issue, it is evident that more needs to be done. Strengthening law enforcement, launching widespread public awareness campaigns, and establishing proper rehabilitation facilities are crucial steps that must be taken immediately. Additionally, community involvement is essential to addressing the root causes of this crisis.
I urge the local government, law enforcement agencies, and civil society to join hands in taking decisive action against this threat. It is our collective responsibility to safeguard our youth and ensure a brighter future for Abbottabad.
Through your esteemed platform, I hope this issue gains the attention it deserves and prompts meaningful action from all stakeholders.
Hissam Ali, Abbottabad
