Trending on social media, the song amassed over 2.6 million views in less than a day.

It has been over a week since singer-songwriter and actor Ali Zafar announced the release of a new song and started sharing glimpses of preps on social media. From the music to rehearsals to asking for entries to feature in the music video, he kept fans in the loop and managed to build a lot of hype around the song. Love him or hate him, which viewers did both of, it was almost impossible to ignore Ali Zafar this past one week.

The song, titled ‘Mela Loot Liya’, released on Sunday evening and in less than a day picked up over 2.6 million views on YouTube while it was trending on Twitter all of Sunday. With a few exceptions, most people praised the song and particularly the effort of bringing out a track in just six days.

When asked about it during an interview on a local TV channel, Ali responded, “Artists who understand the creative process know how it all works.

Creativity strikes you as lightening; it either hits all of a sudden or takes too long at times. When it does, it is like a blessing. It just occurred to me; I wrote the song and it came to life. Everything shaped up so miraculously.”

‘Mela Loot Liya’ is not a cricket anthem; it has a festive, patriotic feel to it and it addresses nationalism, victory, determination and strength. Though the lyrics are a little displaced at certain places, the beat is catchy. Many people are comparing the song with PSL V anthem, ‘Tayyar Hain,’ which isn’t fair, given that the two songs have been produced in completely contrasting settings and under very different circumstances. Strategically, Ali Zafar made absolutely no reference to PSL or cricket while making this song.

‘Mela Loot Liya’ is an uplifting pop track, with none of the gravitas of Jhoom, Ali’s last studio album. The video’s biggest attraction, one has to say, is that it’s extremely well shot and incorporates hundreds of fans, who sent in their dance clips from all over the world.

The video was shot at NCA, Ali Zafar’s alma mater, where reportedly there were protests against its filming in lieu of the Ali Zafar versus Meesha Shafi harassment case.
