It seems Hamza Ali Abbasi, who had just recently denounced his association from the entertainment business, to pursue a higher calling and to correct his misunderstandings about religion, is back.
According to an interview with Masala! Magazine, actor and producer Humayun Saeed stated that Hamza Ali Abbasi - who has starred in films like Main Hoon Shahid Afridi, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, Waar and the upcoming The Legend of Maula Jatt as antagonist Noori Natt – will be directing a film. The former actor, who is presently on TV in a drama serial called Alif, has almost confirmed the deal, reiterated Humayun Saeed. The subject matter should put Hamza right at home as the film will be based on the topic of nationalism and will be produced by Humayun Saeed. The actor and producer further shared that Hamza had always wanted to be a scholar and was pursuing religious studies to that end. But Humayun also maintained that he is also a celebrity but his characters and roles will be limited. Hamza generated serious applause for his performances in drama serials like Mann Mayal and the award winning Pyare Afzal.
Will Hamza be directing another Waar, a Parwaaz Hai Junoon (in which he was the lead star) or pull off a film that goes beyond the pedantic remains to be seen. What we do know is that a Humayun Saeed-Hamza Ali Abbasi collaboration has been fruitful in the past so the possibilities for this film could be endless – if done right.
