The Documentary Association of Pakistan (DAP) is all set to launch an initiative, called Chalta Phirta Documentary Festival, that is going to take place this weekend (Saturday, November 16, and Sunday, November 17, 2019) at Faraar Gallery, The Second Floor (T2F). The festival is a travelling documentary film festival, according to its official website, that is going to 11 cities in Pakistan including Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore, Multan, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawar, Jamshoro and Gilgit, where they will showcase thought-provoking films.

The festival will screen a new set of documentary films – that have gained much critical acclaim internationally, but are not screened locally – in each of these cities on a bi-annual basis. While the festival plans to address some of the misconceptions around documentaries and the people who make them, DAP’s main aim is to “broaden its audience and outreach to cities that are frequently ignored when it comes to the provision of thriving cultural and social events”.

The first edition of the festival will bring international award-winning documentary films that have never been screened publicly in Karachi before. The line up includes Dunkey and The Sinner, which will be screened on November 16 from 07:30 to 09:30 p.m. On Sunday (November 17) Emmy-award winning documentary Armed with Faith, A Walnut Tree and Sindhustan will be showcased from 04:30 to 09.30 p.m.
