Saxophonist and keyboardist, Lenny Massey, who worked with singer Sajjad Ali in Coke Studio season 10, among other things, recently released an instrumental cover of the late iconic qawwal, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s ‘Wohi Khuda Hay’.
According to the artist, who has composed ‘Wohi Khuda Hay’ on saxophone and piano at his home studio, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sahab has always been an inspiration for him. “I thought of covering ‘Wohi Khuda Hay’ because this composition is one of my all-time favourites,” he shared via a press statement.
He further said that though he performed the cover with a positive energy, he made sure that the iconic kalaam didn’t lose its soul in the fusion. And we certainly think that Lenny Massey has done a great job as it is melodious and soothing to the ears.
Lenny’s prime focus as a musician is to always do something different and out of the box, hence he came up with an instrumental cover by using a saxophone. “If it clicks or not that is secondary,” he said, adding that his younger brother Adrian Massey and friend Joshua helped him in the video production of the cover, and the audio was mixed by Alex Shahbaz.
Lenny Massey has been professionally performing for the past 17 years and has performed alongside various artists in Pakistan and abroad. Moreover, he holds the honour of performing, for the first time ever, the saxophone version of the National Anthem of Pakistan.
