Starting with model Eman Suleman, design label Generation and makeup artist Saima Bargfrede pulled out of LSAs 2019 nominations as they did not want to share a spot with an “alleged offender.”

Meesha Shafi followed suit. The Sketches and makeup artist Fatima Nasir also withdrew their nominations for the same reason.

“On behalf of the band and everyone that was involved, we extend our gratitude to Lux, the jury, and our fans for recognizing our creative contribution even though we are rooted far away from the mainstream culture. However, the band has unanimously decided to withdraw ourselves from all nominated categories in this year’s Lux Style Awards. Our reason is simple based on our values and principles, which, we will not bend for any award,” read a press statement issued by The Sketches, who had been nominated in four categories.

Fatima Nasir, on the other hand, posted on her social media, “After much thought and consideration, I am withdrawing from LSA nominations this year. I stand in solidarity with those who have withdrawn from the awards before me and we need to keep raising our voice against sexual harassment until the industry, and the world, is a safe place for women to work.”

Meanwhile recipient of LSA award, filmmaker-producer Jami, who has been very vocal against sexual offenders, announced on his social media that he no longer wants to keep the trophy he received at the LSAs. He posted a picture of the trophy kept outside his house for anyone to pick up. “Lux award – yes here you go! We promised and let’s hope someone picks it. For us, it’s done. We stand by our women and their word,” he wrote.

When asked about his reason for putting the award on the road, Jami told Instep, “Putting out our Lux award is an extreme reaction to an extreme action. LSA should’ve been more careful and sensitive towards women and their massive harassment issues. This time I feel LSAs completely missed the point by not taking our women’s point and stories seriously.”
