Since we’re on the subject of Cake – the group behind the film’s music – The Sketches has released the music video for the song ‘Meri Dunya’ that originally features on the soundtrack of Cake. Far too often, good songs get lost in film music records, particularly if that film has gotten rotten reviews. This effort to make a video is therefore commendable.
The band seems to be having a marvelous year with every release adding to their glorious repertoire. Having appeared on Coke Studio earlier this year, The Sketches have unveiled a beautifully-lit music video, featuring the band to accompany the sonnet-like song, which comes off as a prayer and an elegy asking harder questions in deeply disturbing times. Directed by Haroon Habib, it complements the song and shot partially under the moonlit sky, it goes to show that The Sketches have so much to offer, both as a band and as a contributor to the present cinematic landscape.
The founders of Lahooti Live, Lahooti Ashram and Lahooti Melo, The Sketches, led by Saif Samejo have ambitious and beautiful plans ahead. The Jamshoro-based music outfit is working on the music of upcoming Jami production, Jugnu, as well as a new album.
