Asim Abbasi’s Cake, starring Sanam Saeed, Aamina Sheikh and Adnan Malik in pivotal roles, is on a roll. The critically-acclaimed family drama recently picked up an award, again.

At the 2018 edition of South Asian Film Festival of Montreal, the film won Best Feature Fiction, in the audience category while another Pakistani production, Salam – The Film won Best Feature Documentary.

Cake, endorsed by the likes of Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyup, is having an extraordinary run since it had its world premiere at London’s Leicester Square earlier this year. In doing so, it became the first Pakistani film to have such an opening.

Among its many accolades is the win for Best Feature Narrative at the 13th Tasveer South Asian Film Festival that concluded in Seattle. Cake also opened the festival.

The provoking film about family, love, loss also picked up solid reviews from international publications including The Guardian and Khaleej Times.

Most of all, it is Pakistan’s official submission to Oscars 2019 in the category of ‘Foreign Language Film Award’ for the upcoming 91st Academy Awards. The committee to decide the submission was chaired by two-time Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
