Kami Sid-starrer Rani to be screened at Lone Star Film Festival in Texas

Pakistani short film Rani has had multiple screenings at various international film festivals. Now the short film, which won the Fox Inclusion Short Award at Outfest Los Angeles Film Festival earlier this year, will be screened at the Lone Star Film Festival in Texas. The film fest is scheduled to take place from November 7 till November 11, 2018, and will be held in Sundance Square, Fort Worth.

Written and directed by Hammad Rizvi and produced by Akbar Allana and Sara Siddiqi, Rani features transgender model and activist Kami Sid. It is a unique story that revolves around a Pakistani transgender, who is a toy vendor. Rani’s life changes after she finds an abandoned infant and decides to become a parent. Being a transgender, her decision to take care of the child unfolds some harsh realities that she has to face. The short film has been shot on the streets of Karachi and has been produced by GrayScale and Rizvilia Productions.

In the past, Rani has screened at the Rhode Island International Film Festival; Newport Beach Film Festival, California; CAAMFEST, San Francisco; Asian American International Film Festival, New York and the most recent Tasveer South Asian Film Festival 2018 that was held in Seattle. That’s not all. The short film is also competing as a finalist at the NBCUniversal Short Film Festival, and is scheduled to be screened at a red carpet event in Los Angeles on October 24, 2018.
