Harvey Weinstein was misquoted, claims attorney

While the news was doing the rounds that Harvey Weinstein has admitted to offering acting jobs in exchange for sex in a recent interview with Spectator, recent reports suggest that the disgraced Hollywood mogul was misquoted by Taki Theodoracopulos.

Theodoracopulos, who is a Spectator columnist for the last 41 years, reported earlier that the 66-year-old producer admitted to having “offered them acting jobs in exchange for sex, but so did and still does everyone. But I never, ever forced myself on a single woman.”

But in a recent turn of events, Weinstein’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, has denied all such allegations.

According to Deadline, Benjamin Brafman said in a statement that he was present for the conversation and revealed that it was not an interview but a social meeting between old friends. “Harvey and Taki Theodoracopulos did not discuss the case, nor would I allow him to,” informed Brafman. “We talked about old Hollywood and the contrast to European culture, and I think Taki sees Harvey in that older light. Mr. Weinstein never said anything about trading movie roles for sexual favors. You have my word that Harvey did not say that.”

Adding fuel to fire, even columnist Taki Theodoracopulos has followed up the piece with a statement. “I believe that I may have misrepresented Harvey Weinstein’s conversation with me in New York last month,” he said. “It was my mistake. We were discussing Hollywood and I may have misunderstood certain things about the methods of that place. I had nothing to do with the headline of my article and I hope I have not damaged his case. It was, after all, a social visit.”

Earlier this week Weinstein pleaded not guilty to three additional sex crime charges in Manhattan Criminal Court. This brings the total of felony charges he’s facing to six.
