Lux Style Awards 2018: Looking at the fashion nominations

By Instep Desk
Fri, 01, 18

Fashion is naturally a major segment at the Lux Style Awards with a total of ten categories and it’s the one that people wait for with bated breath. This year’s nominations list sees a mix of the usual suspects along with some young talent. While we wait and see whether this mix of nominees ensures merit is rewarded, here are our thoughts.

Model of the Year- Female

Amna Babar

Anam Malik

Hira Shah

Sadaf Kanwal

Zara Abid

All the nominated models were nominated last year as well except for Hira Shah who has shown a commitment to working in Pakistan even though she lives abroad. However, we’re rooting for Anam Malik who’s done plenty of memorable campaigns, editorials and ramp shows throughout the year.

Model of the Year-Male

Aimal Khan

Champ Imi

Hasnain Lehri

Omer Shahzad

Shahzad Noor

The male model of the year category has a good mix of men. We think Aimal Khan has a good chance of winning but we’d be just as happy to see Hasnain Lehri take home the coveted LSA.

Achievement in Fashion Design-Luxury Pret

Elan

Mahgul

Misha Lakhani

Sania Maskatiya

Shamaeel Ansari

The highly competitive Luxury Pret category has some of the greatest names in the industry but we think Elan had the strongest year with pret even though they’re nominated in two other categories.

Achievement in Fashion Design-Bridal

Ali Xeeshan

Elan

Faraz Manan

Mahgul

Sana Safinaz

Sana Safinaz had a noteworthy year with two bridal collections at FPW and PFDC back to back. They deserve the award this year even though the rest put out memorable collections as well.

Achievement in Fashion Design-Pret

Chapter 2 by Khaadi

Cross Stitch

Generation

Sana Safinaz

Sapphire

Last year retail brands really stepped up their pret game and sheer numbers proved how well off the rack clothing was doing. This year, brands have evolved their pret to be fashion forward and for us two brands are ruling the roster – Chapter 2 by Khaadi and Generation.

Achievement in Fashion Design-Lawn

Elan

Maghul

Sana Safinaz

Shehla Chatoor

Zara Shahjahan

Elan lawn was a crowd pleaser and drew in people into their stores but Shehla Chatoor and Zara Shahjahan had strong collections also, for the maximalist and minimalist in you respectively.

Best Menswear Designer

Amir Adnan

Deepak and Fahad

Deepak Perwani

HSY

Republic by Omar Farooq

We think it’s between Republic and Amir Adnan for this one.

Best Hair & Make-up Artist

Fatima Nasir

Hannan Siddique

Qasim Liaqat

Saima Rashid Bargfrede

Shoaib Khan

This year, one can sense a definite shift towards recognizing younger talent with all nominations in this category being from the new gen of fashion except for Saima Rashid Bargfrede who’s been around for a while. We think Fatima Nasir or Shoaib Khan have a good chance of winning this year.

Best Fashion Photographer

Abdullah Haris

Alee Hassan

Nadir Firoz khan

Rizwan ul Haq

Shahbaz Shazi

Conspicuously absent from this list is Ashna Khan who was in emerging talent last year and should have been a part of the nominations this year. Of the nominations, Alee Hasan has had a great year and has a good chance of winning the award.

Best Emerging Talent

Fahmeen Ansari - Model

Hussain Rehar - Designer

Javeria Hanif - Model

MHM Photography - Photographer

Saheefa Jabbar Khatak - Model

Emerging Talent is always a difficult category to predict because it recognizes newcomers from different sections of the fashion industry which means a pool of nominees with very different talents that can’t exactly be judged against each other. Hussain Rehar, however, has really come up strong this year so we have a good feeling about him.
