Like every year, BBC has announced its list of 100 inspirational and innovative women for 2017. While it comprises names from different walks of life from all over the world (doctors, artists, sportswomen, journalists, writers, etc.), two young Pakistani women have also made it to the list. Coke Studio sensation Momina Mustehsan is featured for battling depression while acid-attack survivor, Resham Khan, is also featured on the list.

Mustehsan is an engineer by qualification but a musician by profession. She shot to fame last year after making her debut in Coke Studio 9. According to her statement published on bbc.com, “The quote that helped me the most with my life was: It only gets better when you get better. Would you believe I found this in the inside a New York takeaway fortune cookie when I was binge-eating my way through depression? That woke me up.”

Resham Khan on the other hand is a 21-year-old student who didn’t shy away from facing the world when it seemed the scariest.

According to bbc.com, the women on the list this year will be a part of the 100 Women Challenge that handles some of the biggest problems including literacy, harassment, sexism, etc. that confront women across the globe. They will come together in four teams – Team Lead, Team Read, Team Go and Team Play – and share their experiences to provide innovative solutions. However only 60 names have been revealed so far and there are 40 spaces to be filled for which women who have taken up the challenge in some way will be added to the list.
