Pakistan won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and here’s what celebs from across the border had to say.

A cricket match between Pakistan and India is no less than a battle. And the recent ICC Champions Trophy finale between the two states, held on Sunday, was no exception. Fans from both sides of the border were hooked on to their TV screens till the end, showing support to their respective teams. Pakistan won the trophy quite unexpectedly given their past record against India in ICC tournaments. It was a glorious victory

In the aftermath, not only did celebrities from Pakistan (such as Ali Zafar, Shaan Shahid, Fahad Mustafa and Mawra Hocane) congratulate the team but their Bollywood counterparts also congratulated team Pakistan despite the ongoing rift between the two countries.

The best one came from actor-producer Farhan Akhtar who tweeted, “Congratulations team Pakistan. Undoubtedly, the better side today in all departments.”

Sidharth Malhotra on the other hand congratulated Pakistan and praised their performance while Abhishek Bachchan called Pakistanis, “the better team on the day”. They also showed support to the Indian team who lost the match. Echoing similar thoughts, Varun Dhawan said, “In sports there is always a winner and loser. Today Pakistan was the better team, well played. I am sure India will come back much stronger” whereas Ranveer Singh tweeted, “Congrats Pak – played a helluva final. Some brilliant teams have lost finals recently…Juve, Cavs & now Team India – funky sorta season.”

Sushmita Sen and Diana Penty were all praises for Pakistan as well. “Congratulations Pakistan! You brought your best game to the Finals! All rounded brilliance no doubt! A blessed Ramadan indeed!” tweeted Sen while Penty expressed her feelings in these words: “Congratulations Pakistan! An outstanding all-round performance.”

One actor whose tweets caused quite a stir on social media pre and post match is Rishi Kapoor. He stooped rather low before the match and made overconfident, distasteful comments. And while Pakistan was playing well, he was the target of multiple tweets and memes on Facebook. Once Pakistan was announced the winner though, he too took to Twitter to congratulate the team and backtrack some of his earlier comments. He tweeted, “Yes Pakistan, you have defeated us. Well played, outplayed us in all departments. Many congratulations, I concede. Best wishes!”
