More than the films, it’s the red carpet appearances made by glamorous celebrities that gain headlines during the Cannes Film Festival that is held in France every year. Celebrities have an entire team of stylists who prepare them for stepping out on one of the most coveted red carpets in the world. Thankfully, stars never disappoint and as per routine, this year’s festival has proven to be the same.

Longtime Cannes attendee, Bollywood’s Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, had her “Cinderella moment” in a picturesque Michael Cinco gown.

Stylishly dressed celebrities overshadow proceedings at the 70th edition of the prestigious film festival.

Style icon and singer Rihanna always knows how to dress for the occasion. For instance, she was the most talked about celebrity at the recently concluded Met Gala for her avant-garde appearance. For her various appearances during the festival, Rihanna chose the likes of Dior and Ralph & Russo and showed the world that she hasn’t forgotten how to channel classic charm despite being known for her out-there sense of style.

Tilda Swinton may have suffered an awkward moment during the screening of her film Okja which was booed at by the audience for several reasons, but she stood tall and strong on the red carpet. The film, acquired by Netflix, was criticized by the French for its refusal to comply with a new festival rule that all films must be shown in French cinemas. The film was met with further jeering by the crowd because of a technical glitch.

But Swinton’s graceful style may have helped in redeeming her presence at the festival. Dressed in Haider Ackerman, Swinton looked picture perfect in a sleek white gown, cinched at her waist.

Bollywood beauties Deepika Padukone and Aishwariya Rai have been turning heads as well. Thankfully, both stars have been taking sensible sartorial decisions as both are heavily scrutinized for their international red carpet appearances (Padukone was criticized for her recent Met Gala appearance while Rai didn’t hear the end of the purple lip colour she wore last year). Padukone chose a deep plum Marchesa gown for her first appearance while slicking her hair back in teal Brandon Maxwell off shoulder gown for day two. Rai had her “Cinderella moment” in a picturesque Michael Cinco gown.
