Haroon Shahid discusses his experience working with Shoaib Mansoor in his upcoming film, Verna.

The latest addition to the singer-turned-actor bandwagon, Haroon Shahid is all set to make his cinematic debut in Shoaib Mansoor’s Verna. The best part is that Shahid hasn’t let go of his musical roots and the musician inside him is being kept alive by the fact that he is also responsible for the soundtrack of the film. “It’s been a dream come true,” gushed Shahid when we asked him what it was like working with ace filmmaker Mansoor. “I see him as a songwriter and lyricist before I see him as a filmmaker. I’ve been his fan since the old Vital Signs days so this whole experience has been absolutely amazing.”

Shahid revealed that the film’s soundtrack boasts six tracks, one of which will be sung by the musician himself. “It’s my favourite track in the whole film. It’s also the only song I’ll be singing myself.” Other artists included in the film’s soundtrack are Zeb Bangash, Soch, Zain ul Abedin and other new musicians from Islamabad. “Shoaib sahab and I made a lot of decisions together. We decided collectively which musicians to approach for the songs. We even composed some tracks together,” he elaborated.

But Shahid’s acting experience was a little tougher than his musical contributions to the film. “Of course I faced some challenges with my acting since it’s my first ever acting experience but thankfully I had a lot of supportive people around me to help me with my acting. The great thing about Shoaib sahab is that he finds new, raw talent and then nurtures it.”

Shahid went on to praise his film director. “Shoaib sahab doesn’t really over-direct when he’s on set. He sort of lets you do the directing yourself and he’ll overlook to make sure you’re on the right track. That ensures that the performance is as natural and close to real life as possible.”

While there is no official date for the film’s release yet, Shahid did confirm that the film will be released this year.
