Terrence Malick, the elusive filmmaker behind films like The Tree of Life and the 2016 documentary, Voyage of Time, is back with a new film called Song to Song. The reclusive filmmaker whose last release, Knights of Cup failed to click with critics and the audience, is looking all set to return to the top with his new feature film that opened the 2017 SXSW Film Festival recently.

Starring Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara, the film is set against the Austin music scene and features two entangles couples. Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara essay two struggling songwriters while Natalie Portman is a waitress and Michael Fassbender is playing a music mogul. If that casting isn’t brilliant enough, imagine a film set against the rock ‘n’ roll landscape of Austin. And given the amount of prestige bestowed on La La Land, this film could go all the way. And yes, Song to Song hasn’t earned the kind of support that went to Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, it has moved some critics.

“The great achievement of Malick’s latest film is that he validates sentiment through the sheer power of his visceral, sensual, and above all temporally and spiritually searching filmmaking, making it feel like wisdom resounding throughout the ages,” noted Paste magazine in its review. Our bet, this film will be special so watch out for its release.
