It was revealed earlier this year that former Pakistani cricketer Rameez Raja is gearing up to direct a film, called Torbaaz, which will star Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in the lead role. Raja has written the script in collaboration with Indian director Girish Malik with whom he’s co-directing the film. The latest news surrounding Torbaaz is that it will have a song that Dutt wrote while he was in Yerwada jail.

Reflecting on how it materialized producer Rahul Mittra informed Mumbai Mirror, “Girish and I had gone to meet Sanju in Agra where he is filming Bhoomi. He hummed a few songs he’d penned when in prison. He has a scratch version recorded and I was touched by one particular song. ‘O Meri Aangan Ki Chidiya Hai Tu’ is about a father-daughter relationship. It’s beautifully written and relevant to our film as Sanju’s character loses his child. I got very emotional when I heard it and told him we would like to use it in Torbaaz. He readily agreed.”

In an earlier interview with Instep, Raja shared that Torbaaz will highlight how “cricket can help us get out of this 75-yard mindset to do something more solid for society. The film will also highlight how we can retrieve the downtrodden kids from nefarious activities and take them back into mainstream circulation and how cricket can help them do that.”
