Love and friendship are recurring themes in Karan Johar films. There is almost always a love triangle but this time – as is apparent in the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil trailer – the triangle is actually a square. There’s the passion between Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai, who wants to be “wanted and not needed” by a man, and there’s the passion between Fawad Khan and Anushka Sharma, who terms “Hari” as her “tabahi.” Between all this passion is ever lasting friendship between Ranbir and Anushka, which of course transitions to love at some point. All this love and lovemaking, beautiful people and songs and sexy locales makes up the brief but compelling trailer of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. It doesn’t seem like something we’ve never seen before but then, do we ever tire of seeing it? Plus, knowing Karan Johar, there may be a twist that we are unaware of.

This is the introduction to ADHM, which releases on October 28 and goes up against Ajay Devgn’s Shivvay on the same day; one doesn’t see how the latter has a chance even though Devgn has been alleged of paying certain journalists to plant good words about his film.

Coming back to the trailer of ADHM and focusing on Fawad Khan, in particular, there is absolutely no doubting his set of skills when it comes to acting. He is showing diversity of range in the roles he’s picking up – going from a modern Nawab in Khoobsurat to a closeted and complicated homosexual in Kapoor & Sons. He plays a very hot and aggressive DJ in ADHM and we’re sure he’ll rock the role, no matter how small it is. But then what?

If the Indian media is to be believed then FK has signed up at least half a dozen films by now. He’s rumoured to have signed up for a film with Salman Khan Productions. Then he is doing a film with Katrina Kaif. He is playing Virat Kohli as a cameo in MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. These are all rumours and we have it from credible sources that Khan has not signed any dotted line yet. What we do know for a fact is that he has recorded the opening episode of the new season of Koffee with Karan. That said, and given the current scenario and the inflammatory war rhetoric that one hears, it’s difficult to say whether this will materialize or not.

Meanwhile, Albela Rahi – the film portraying Alamgir’s life – and Bilal Lashari’s Maula Jutt are both in pre-production and will both feature Fawad Khan. That should be more than enough to satisfy his fans this side of the border. Let’s just hope ADHM makes it to cinemas across too.
