Instep rounds up six places in Karachi that will perfectly satiate your appetite after 15 hours of starvation.

Most of us prefer to break their fast at home; it’s definitely a comfort zone in which you eat at leisure and pray in peace. However, every now and then you look for a break from home-food and venture out. With so many options and iftar deals out there it certainly gets mind boggling to find out the best place in terms of taste, quality and cost. Here are some of our favourite options; tried and tested and highly recommended if you live in Karachi…

Tao

The ambiance and food makes Tao Pan Asian Cuisine a great place for iftar. It’s not just Chinese, if that’s what you’re worried about; Tao is a combination of Thai, Malay, Chinese and Japanese cuisines. The menu has iftar specials, soups, starters, salad and main course with a desert, obviously. Iftar Buffet Dinner at Tao is 1295 + tax for adults and 995+tax for children 3-8 years.

Port Grand

The serenity of calm waters, the aroma of delectable food and the relaxation of a place away from the buzzing city life, Port Grand offers all that and more for a perfect trip out for iftar. Options are endless for there are a variety of eateries to suit everyone’s palate – from desi delights to continental bites. And after you’ve chugged down all that food, there are a myriad of entertaining activities in store for you to enjoy with your entire family, starting from 10pm onwards.

Nandos

If you’re looking for tongue tantalizing and lusciously grilled chicken for iftar, look no further, as Nandos offers the best chicken in K-Town. It’s a heaven sent for the fitness freaks among us for the meals are filling yet low in calorie count. The country’s most creative food outlet when it comes to advertisements, Nandos has multiple iftar deals on offer. Iftar for two costs about PKR 1300 + tax and so on and so forth.

Kababjees

Although the place has been marred with controversy surrounding mismanagement and a significant number of people being stood up because of no available seating space, there is no denying the fact that Kababjees is one of the best in town when it comes to fingerlickin’, spice-laden desi food. It has quickly become a go-to place for fans of local cuisine and never fails to disappoint in taste. The place is almost always brimming with customers, even in the month of Ramazan, so it’s best to book a table in advance and arrive no later than 6:30pm to secure your place. The ‘all you can eat’ deal costs PKR 1499 per person excluding tax.

Kolachi

If ambiance matters just as much to you as food then Kolachi at Do Darya is your best bet for an iftar half way up the calming waters of the Arabian Sea. The place is known for its consistency with the quality and taste of food and is a popular choice among Karachiites with a preference for local cuisine. Our personal recommendation is the fiery and melt-in-your-mouth Lahori fish. However, in Ramazan, Kolachi offers an extensive buffet of around 60 to 70 dishes altogether that costs about PKR 1790 per person plus tax.

Cosmopolitan

For a more posh affair head out to E street and stop by Cosmopolitan for a sumptuous iftar plus dinner buffet alongside murals speaking of Karachi’s undeniable glory. The buffet includes a range of dishes from salads to pastas as well as steak options apart from a selected list of iftar items that include jalapeno peppers, wontons, fruit chaat and more. Slightly on the pricey side, the buffet costs PKR 2200 per person excluding tax.
