Benedict Cumberbatch has had a terrific run in Hollywood so far. From playing Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate to essaying British cryptographer Alan Turing in The Imitation Game to starring in larger-than-life iconic film franchises like the J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek and Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, Cumberbatch has been flying high. Following the release of Marvel’s Doctor Strange teaser trailer last week, Cumberbatch’s turn to comic mythology has not only gained traction around the world but has easily surpassed all other film trailers in the genre by not presenting the same superhero vs. superhero battle.

But as you wait for Cumberbatch to make his debut as Doctor Strange, there is more good news as the actor has returned to the sets of Sherlock.

Mark Gatiss, who is the co-creator of Sherlock and also stars on the show as Mycroft Holmes, took to his Twitter account and shared pictures of both Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (who stars on the show as Dr. John Watson), confirming the story.

Both Gatiss and co-creator Steven Moffat have also hinted at the possibility that the fourth season could be the last for the BBC series.

“This is the story we’ve been telling from the beginning. A story about to reach its climax,” said a press release.

While you wait for season four to air, which won’t happen before 2017, don’t discount the possibility of a film. If the writers can come up with a worthy plot, the transition from small screen to big screen just might happen.
