Islamabad United record 5-wkt win over Multan Sultans
After being defeated in their first Twenty20 match by Peshawar Zalmi on Saturday, they came behind to outplay unbeaten Multan Sultans by five wickets in their second match.
DUBAI: Led by stand-in captain Rumman Raees, Islamabad United achieved their first victory in the third edition of the Pakistan Super League here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
After being defeated in their first Twenty20 match by Peshawar Zalmi on Saturday, they came behind to outplay unbeaten Multan Sultans by five wickets in their second match.
Chasing an easy 114-run target, the United completed their victory with 14 balls remaining.
Hussain Talat steered his team to 117 for five with an unbeaten 48from 34 balls. He struck three sixes and four boundaries.
The only other significant contribution was made by Chadwick Walton, who made 28 off 23 balls with five fours.
Imran Tahir, the leg-break googly bowler from South Africa, bowled well to claim three wickets for 19 runs but could not stop the United batsmen to reach the target.
Earlier, Multan Sultans were bowled out for a low score of 113 in with one ball to spare after being sent into bat as none of their batsmen could bat well except captain Shoaib Malik and Kieron Pollard.
Malik made 35 off 36 balls with two sixes and Pollard scored 28 off 19 balls with three fours and a six.
The only other batsman to get into the double figures was Ahmed Shehzad, who made 11.
Rumman captured three wickets for 14 runs while Mohammad Sami and Andre Russell claimed two wickets each.
