India’s appalling practice of hunting witches
Statistics reveal that more than 2500 women have been killed from 2000-16 just on the suspicions that they perform witchcraft.
JHARKAND: Witch-hunting is an actual practice in India. Some eleven men in the Indian state of Jharkand were arrested for torturing two women on the suspicions of performing ‘witchcraft.’
According to these women, they had been forced to eat human (feces) and shave their heads. In addition they had been made to walk naked on the streets.
“They forced me to eat human feces and beat my children calling them children of a witch. I had nowhere to escape. They tortured me mercilessly,” shared a woman.

Women in India are often blamed for being the reason behind drought or sudden death as witches and are targeted for their land and property.
