KARACHI: Sindh Track and Field Club in collaboration with Pakistan Sports Board is organizing an Under-20 athletic championship on Saturday, October 01, 2016 at National Sports Training and Coaching Center in Karachi.
The championship plans to honor the memory of Khawaja Kaleem Ghani, a leading sprinter and hurdler from Pakistan who broke the Asian world record for 440m yard hurdles in 1957 while competing at an event in Australia.
Kaleem Ghani was part of the Pakistan delegation to the 1956 Olympic Games where he represented Pakistan in the 400 hurdles and the 4x100m men’s relay.
The championship will feature Under-20 men and women categories and will include both track and field events.
Roma Altaf, the organizer of the event said, “While we have been blessed by a number of talented athletes in both younger and older age groups, we have not seen enough participation from the 17-19 age group in recent competitions. Our objective was to encourage participation from Inter, college and A level students before they get busy with exam preparation and identify new talent for upcoming regional junior and youth competitions.”
A number of leading top colleges and universities in the city have already confirmed participation.
Registration is open to both individual and team entries and can be done early morning on the day of the event.
