Almgren smashes European record by 35 seconds to claim World Road Championship gold

Swedish runner Andreas Almgren secured the half-marathon title on Sunday at the World Road Championships in Copenhagen winning in a time of 58:06 ahead of Kenya’s Nicholas Kipkorir.

The two athletes remained head-to-head until the final meters with Almgren making his decisive move along the final leg to start ahead of Kipkorir who clocked 58:11.

According to World Athletics, this performance ranks him ninth in the longest-distance running.

On social platform X, users have been praising his performance with one writing, “ That is flying for 13 miles. Copenhagen had these runners moving like the coffee just kicked in.”

Second added, “ Incredible Andreas Almgren wins world championship gold in half marathon in Copenhagen on new European record.First time in decades without an African victory. Sprinted past Kenyan Kipkorir on the final stretch from European championship gold on 10,000 meters to world championship gold on just over double the distance..”

This victory marked Almgren’s first senior world, and had previously won a bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the 2025 World Championships and secured victory in the 10,000 meters at the European Championships in Birmingham in August 2026.
