Josh Allen steals the spotlight at Bills’ new stadium opener

Josh Allen delivered an outstanding performance as the Buffalo Bills opened their new stadium in style with a 41-31 win over the Detroit Lions.

On Sunday, after winning 36-31 against the Houston Texans in their first game of the season, the Bills now turned in another stunning performance in their home opener. They scored six goals at the new Highmark Stadium built next to their old home at a cost of $2.2bn driven by Josh Allen.

Allen burst into the end zone and found Joshua Palmer before Dawson Knox tallied soon after the second quarter began. The Lions responded with Jared Goff finding Jahmyr Gibbs who became the NFL’s highest-paid running back in the off-season.

Allen was named the NFL’s most central player for the 2024 season and James Cook scored for the Bills to ensure the Lions only stayed within ten points. According to the BBC, before the game in Buffalo on the US border with Canada, both countries' national anthems were also played. 

Furthermore, the latter was sung by the Canadian band Barenaked Ladies as the Bills chose to recognize their Canadian fans in the wake of the rising tensions between the two countries.
