King Charles makes 'terribly misguided mistake' with major move
"Throughout her 70-year reign, the Queen (Elizabeth II) took that view of 'never complain, never explain'"
A royal expert has said that King Charles statement on Princess Diana’s brother Earl Spencer claims was a 'terribly misguided mistake.'
Royal expert Richard Eden has made these remarks on Palace Confidential show, where he was also joined by Rebecca English, Queen Elizabeth's former Press Secretary Ailsa Anderson and host Luke Blackall.
He said King Charles message released by the Palace on Earl Spencer's book claims was a 'terribly misguided mistake'.
The statement from the Palace read: “While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss.”
Reacting to the statement, Richard Eden revealed that he believes the Palace's statement was 'terribly misguided' - and that it was 'unnecessary' for the monarch to have responded 'so quickly' to the Earl's explosive claims.
Eden continued, 'I'm just terribly saddened and actually quite angry about it. I think it was a terribly misguided thing to do - to respond so quickly in this way.'
Diana’s brother Charles Spencer alleges in a soon-to-be-published memoir that the then-Prince Charles told him "rest assured, we'll forget her soon enough."
“Throughout her 70-year reign, the Queen took that view of "never complain, never explain",' Eden added.
