Lindsay Clancy trial backlash sparks shocking calls to strip women of the right to vote
The Lindsay Clancy trial has reportedly divided Americans along sharp lines
The 19th Amendment enshrines women's right to vote.
But when a swarm of women strongly backed Lindsay Clancy during her trial, an online theory was born.
Though reportedly remaining on the fringes, the theory calls for taking away women's right to vote after they supported a woman who killed her three children.
Posts on social media are popping up, calling for 'repeal the 19th Amendment.'
But according to political and legal strategist Mehek Cooke, it may damage the GOP's voter base.
"I think there’s definitely a threat in the Republican Party right now," she told Fox News Digital.
She added, "When you have these fringe activists online talking about repealing the 19th Amendment or alienating women, it really doesn’t help."
Some of the posts come from accounts linked to conservative women associated with the Republican Party.
To this, Cooke said, "Social media isn’t real life. I think a lot of people out there put these arbitrary crazy ideas, but it doesn’t really reflect what normal people think and what mainstream thinks."
But the expert also said she somehow understands why there are calls to repeal the 19th Amendment in the wake of loud support coming for Clancy for killing her three kids.
"I think you're getting these calls because of where our culture is today," she added.
"You looked at the Lindsay Clancy trial and all the women out there in pink that were continuing to support a woman who murdered three children."
"You're constantly seeing this cultural push in terms of where women stand today in politics," Cooke said.
Meanwhile, Clancy's trial is set to begin on September 29.
