Woman rescued alive after days under Nepal flood debris: What to know
Her rescue comes amid a massive search rescue operation in flood hit Nepal
In the latest update, a 60-year-old woman has been rescued alive in Nepal after spending 11 days trapped beneath flood debris, nearly two weeks after floods and landslides caused widespread destruction across the region.
The reports showed that rescue teams successfully found her inside of a buried house in Nuwakot district and evaluated her for medical care. The woman, identified as Candika Shrestha, was rescued from the house in Betravati with the assistance of other agencies.
According to official data, the death toll from flash floods along the Nepal-China border rose to 1,375 on Saturday. On the contrary, 5,531 people remained missing ten days after the major disaster struck across the region.
Given the situation ongoing, Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority confirmed that 1,344 people were killed, 5000 others, including 589 foreigners remained missing. The disaster struck on August 26 when the fracture developed into a mass-wasting glacial debris flow rising through valleys along the border.
Additionally, it is crucial to note that a Chinese national was also rescued after 10 days trapped in a hydropower tunnel as response teams were available amid blocked roads and ongoing searches.
